Offseason Update: Pitching

82 Days to go people! 82 days! We can do this!

It seems like just yesterday the season ended (we won't mention the fashion it ended in...)! But here we are, mid January...can you believe it. I, sure as hell, cannot!

Referring back to my previous blog...I humbly admit, I was wrong. Adrian Beltre has signed, so have John Lackey and Marco Scuatro. Jason Bay has left Beantown for the Citi...leaving my broken heart behind in a pile on the floor. Alright, so I may be over emotional. But come the end of the season and the beginning of his free agency, I was CONVINCED he was staying. Maybe it was naive side showing (it can be embarrassing!) but I thought he would be returning for a second season inhabiting left field. But nope!

Anyway, I won't linger on that because we all know the dirty details. Enjoy the extra 6 million you pasty Canadian.

Moving on! This year is looking promising my friends. Why? The answer is pitching. Shall we take a comprehensive look at our rotation? Alright! (Granted, we don't know who is going to make the rotation just yet, because there will be an odd man out but, let review anyway!)

Numero Uno on the list: Dice K.
-Red Sox nation was just informed that he lied about a leg injury he 'forgot' to mention at the beginning of the season. This caused him to over throw his shoulder, therefore injuring it. This led to the subsequent absence for a good portion of the season. But let's pretend that, come the start of the 2010 season, everything is a-okay with our Japanese prodigy and he pitches like back in the day. This is part one in the melt-your-face awesome rotation Theo and his team have carefully crafted.

Part Deux: Josh Beckett
-Sure, Mr. Beckett might have gone into a slump on the verge of being a Cy Young candidate, BUT, he is still Josh Beckett. He won 17 games in 2009, the second highest in the career (the first being, of course, the 2007 season). With his insane fastballs, deceptive ways, and the way he 'paints' (Eck flashbacks!) the strike zone, Beckett is sure to be one hellova asset in the rotation.

Three: Jon Lester
-Everyone's favorite reliable man! He utilizes his fastballs, cutters, change-ups,and curve balls like none other. He can pitch himself in to a mess, but he has the ability to get himself back out. If he pitches anything like last year (or 2008!), he's golden.

Four: John Lackey
-The newest edition to the already killer rotation. He was a danger to us before, but now the Angel has switched sides. He's with us now. And boy, aren't we glad. I mean, for example July 29, 2008. He threw a no hitter until our very own Dustin Pedroia broke it up with a single. Youk followed with a homer and despite those two efforts, we still lost 6-2. But that power is now on the other side of the field. Here's to Lackey's performance in 2010! Let's hope he can win us 19 games like he did for the Angels in 2007!

Five: Tim Wakefield
-Come on. It's Tim "Terminator" Wakefield. He just goes out there, destroys your life with that knuckle ball, and does it with a smile on his face. That man will be pitching until he's in a wheelchair. Even then he will still own souls.

Six: Clay Buchholz
-The king who fell from grace, and is now beginning to regain the title and crown. Everyone and their brother knows about the no hitter back in 2007 but since then his numbers took a nose dive. But not all is lost for the gangly man from Texas. He is certainly making progress towards becoming a better pitcher. He went 7-4 in 2009. But man, he's got the stuff! The Sox will be hanging on to him, I hope, for a very long time.

Of course it can't be all pitching right! We have to have power in our bats to back up the power pitchers! But that examination will be left to another blog. This one is certainly long enough and my carpel tunnel is kicking in. So for now I will leave it as is. Let's pray those 82 days go fast!

Marco Scutaro?

The shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays???
Yes indeed.
So on my daily religious check of such websites as Nesn.com and Boston.com, I stumbled upon a slide show of the 11 people the Red Sox should get in the off season. Shall I share?
Alright!

1) Jason Bay - Um YEAH. 4 years at 60 million dollars. Fine. Get him. (Please sign J-Bomb, for the love of all that is holy, you're making me nervous!)

2) Adrian Gonzalez - Alright! He would be a nice asset. Wouldn't mind it!

3) Felix Hernandez - Seattle's pitcher who went 19-5 with a 2.49 ERA? Yes please. I mean, imagine our rotation with that extra 'umpf'. Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz, Felix Hernandez, Dice-K (?), Tim Wakefield (?). It would be a constant rotation of screwing with the opponent's batter's minds (aka Holy Terror Pitching Staff).

4) Matt Holliday - Another good prospect to think about if Jason Bay skips town (don't you dare!).

5) Roy Halladay - Meh. He's good. I like him. Just don't trade Buchholz for him.

6) Adrian Beltre - No thank you. Don't get me wrong readers, he's a good player. But I would rather see Mike Lowell and Youk play were they are. If Lowell needs a day off, put Youk on third and Victor Martinez on first. George Kottaras or Varitek can catch.

7)Johnny Damon - No.

8) Marco Scutaro - I really like this guy. After watching him play when the Sox met with Toronto...he's earned the affectionate nickname of Scoots. If my roommate and I give a player a nickname, they're in. Yes, hes 33 but hes hella good. Plus with the shortstop position in limbo, we need a guy in there who is consistent.

9)Josh Willingham - He seems like a player that might thrive at Fenway given the chance, but he may be just a bargaining chip for another team.

10) John Lackey - 7.1 Innings of scoreless relief, impressive. We can never have too much pitching, I guess.

11) Bobby Abreu - Well he just signed with the Angels, so this is pointless.

There ya have it folks. What do you think? Is there anyone else you think we should get/look at/pursue?

Frankly My Dear, I'm a little Disappointed

Disappointed in what you ask? In the music industry!

I admit, for the past few years, I have become a fan of such bands as We the Kings and Forever the Sickest Kids. (Not to sound more important that everyone else) But I've liked these bands since before they were really popular, as I'm sure a lot of people have.

But.

Come the rise of such super powers as Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez...aka...the Disney Channel Stars. People who got their fame by being on the Disney Channel.

So whats the link between these two subjects you ask?

Well.

Bands these days it seems will do anything to get one step further, to get 10 more fans, to get 100 more bucks, to be that more famous. First it was Forever the Sickest Kids re-doing one of their songs (Whoa-Oh, Me Vs. Everyone) with Selena Gomez. Fine. I can let that slip. Don't wanna, but I guess I have to. Next...We The King's new album Smile, Kid features a song with Demi Lovato. Come on. How many years has it been since your last album, and you give me this??

But wait! Don't be mad at me just yet. Hear my reasoning for my dismay.

I simply feel like it's a sell out. What about the older fans who want to see a bands evolution into something not necessarily better, but something more mature than what they were. What about the older fans who still want to see said band's show but doesn't want to be surrounded by little teeny-bobbers wearing "I Heart Joe Jonas" T-shirts? I feel like the so called "scene" bands are trying to milk the Disney Channel cash cow for all its worth. Sure, those stars are simply raking in the cash, but do they know what it's like to actually tour? And by tour I mean TOUR. Sleeping in a van with 8 to 10 other people every night after a show, so everyone smells of B.O. Eating what you can find at the gas station. The grueling schedule of load in, load out, set up, break town, teching..ect ect ect. What about the continuous cycle of sleep deprivation! These kids don't know about all this. They have 'people' to haul all that equipment around for them...all they have to do is get dressed, put on their face, and go out and sing. Granted! Granted they have to take care of their voice and they have to be aware of their body but still...they have it made in comparison to those who tour constantly will little to no money or reward.

I mean, let's face it, you're never going to see AFI do a duet with Miley Cyrus. Never. Why? Because AFI values themselves to much to create a train wreck like that. Some other bands need to gain some of that self respect as well.

My idea? Let's stick to what we know best. Let's take a break, a breather if you will, regain our composure, and go back out there and make some decent music. Make your own music. Be who you want to be as a band or musician. Don't succumb to the mainstream tween sensations. BE ORIGINAL. I don't care how much money you make, being original doesn't have a price.

Top Albums of 2008
Current mood: crazy
Category: Music

So, 2008 came and went. Was it a good year for music? Yay...Nay?

I think so. Here is my list of my top 10 albums of '08.

10) Alesana - Where Myth Fades to Legend

-Its just so epic! I had 'Seduction' stuck in my noodle for days. Listen to: All Night Dance Parties in the Underground Palace

9) Sing It Loud - Come Around

-Oh whats not to love. The sugary goodness, raw talent, and some hooks. Good stuff. Listen to: Marionettes

8) Every Avenue - Shh...Just Go With It

-This album came out in February and it still hold a regular spot on my Ipod's rotation line up. Listen to: Days of the Old

7) The Maine - Cant Stop Wont Stop

-Honestly, it took me a while to even listen to this album for fear of it sounding like all those other pop-punk bullshit bands out there. But Cant Stop Wont Stop warmed up to me. Listen to: You Left Me

6) Escape the Fate - This War is Ours

-Ronnie Radke who? Craig Mabbit does wonders with the band Radke left behind. Listen to: Its Just Me

5) Chiodos - Bone Palace Ballet (reissue)

-All Chiodos did was make thier already epic album, even more epic. With six new tracks, this album rocks harder than ever. Plus the acoustic of 'A Letter To Janelle' is absolutly stunning. Listen to: Smitten for the Mitten

4) Family Force 5 - Dance or Die

-Between 'Business Up Front/Party in the Back' and 'Dance or Die' there is such a change in Family Force 5, that it makes me want to know where they are gonna go next. Dance-y and filled will uber goodness. Listen to: Radiator

3) Forever the Sickest Kids - Underdog Alma Mater

-I don't think I took this album out/off my Ipod since I bought it. It was in my car stereo, Ipod, EVERYWHERE. I love it. Every song is like its own adventure/dance party. Warning: This album is wicked catchy. Be prepared to have songs stuck in your head for a minimum of weeks. Listen to: My Worst Nightmare

2) A Skylit Drive - Wires and the Concept of Breathing

-ASD worked hard of this album, and one can certainly tell. The two things that first caught my attention was the lead singer (Micheal Jagmin)'s voice and the intensity of the drums. Lately, this is all I listen to. Although, I wish they would bring the keyboards forward a little more, this album is absolutly fan-freakin-tastic. Listen to: This Isnt The End

and....

1) Ludo - You're Awful I Love You

-Dude. I had never heard of these guys until I saw them live with Sing It Loud. I figured their live performance was stellar, so must be their record. I was right. It goes from quirky (Lake Pontchartrain), stalker-esque (Go-Getter Greg), dangerous (The Horror of Our Love), to the outwardly sexual (Mutiny Below) and I love every minute of it. Just take a listen...you wont regret it. Listen to: Love Me Dead

Agree? Disagree? Let me know!

What's your list?

Happy 2009 (almost)!

-me.

Laughing is the Best Medicine

Me Again....

Does anyone else ever have those moments where you are doing something completely mundaine but all of a sudden and out of the blue, you think of something funny that happened days or weeks ago and you just bust out laughing? I hope so, cause its amusing when you do.

I was cooking dinner tonight for the fam, and as I was stiring the pasta, I guess I was reflecting and I remembered something funny that had happened to my mom, and let me tell you how hard I laughed. Yeah it seems like random and silly, but I guess I'm just one of those people that do those kinds of things.

I mean, whats the point of life if you cant get out there and just simply laugh at yourself?! Dance around like no one cares...SING IT LOUD...just act like what feels natural...let yourself out. Dont hide your silliness from others. If they dont like it...whatever...their problem, not yours.

Basically, you cant be stressed and up-tight all the time...not that I'm calling anyone stressed or up-tight. :D

Now, get out there and have some friggen fun!
